Lone Star man sentenced in Upshur County

A Lone Star man has been sentenced to 99 years in prison by an Upshur County jury on a charge of Retaliation against a witness. Charles Lance Taylor was found guilty by a jury of five men and seven women who also found Taylor’s offense to be enhanced, which raised the minimum sentence to 25 to 99 years. After an hour deliberation, the jury then sentenced Taylor to the maximum of 99 years.

May marks a turning point in the lives of students around the area, as high school graduations signify the end of one journey and the beginning of another for the Class of 2022. For many students, reaching the top of their class is a goal they began working towards in elementary school. Daingerfield High School has announced that Sanaa Fields and Julissa Chavez have been named as Valedictorian and Salutatorian for the DHS Class of 2022.

East Texas motorcycle deaths rise in 2021

More than 500 Texas motorcyclists were killed in crashes in 2021. During this time in the Atlanta District, a total of 125 motorcycle traffic crashes resulted in the deaths of 11 motorcyclists (operators and passengers). Ten motorcyclists were killed in crashes in 2020. Many more were seriously injured. In 2021 in the Atlanta District, 37 motorcyclists suffered serious injuries.
