Avinger 1936 Study Club opens organizational year with first meeting

The Avinger 1936 Study Club is already active and busy this 2023/24 year. The President’s Luncheon was held at the beautiful restaurant, 1852, in Jefferson. Members and guests enjoyed the atmosphere and scrumptious meal. The October meeting was held at Nancy Gordon’s Fish Camp, which is always a fall retreat for our club. We were educated and entertained by Cass County Judge, Travis Ransom. Judge Ransom made us all feel comfortable asking questions while he answered with knowledge and humor. Our November meeting is a community outreach program with the Pleasant Hill Quilters as they present the History of the Underground Railroad. We are hosting the Pandora Club of Daingerfield and have invited others to join us for this interesting program.

NORTHEAST TEXAS — A new development in the decades-long fight over a proposed reservoir in Northeast Texas is offering Texans a chance to speak out in defense of private property and against the use of eminent domain for an unnecessary, outdated water project. The Texas Water Development Board (TWDB) is conducting a feasibility review of the proposed Marvin Nichols Reservoir. This comes after State Representative Gary VanDeaver requested the review as part of House Bill 1, which passed the Legislature earlier this year.
