DAINGERFIELD -- Memorial services for Coach Steve Williams, 64 of Daingerfield were held July 14, at Nail-Haggard Funeral Home Chapel. Coach Williams was born on April 17, 1954 in Shreveport, La. to Gordon Woodrow Williams and Joya Capitola Lindsey Williams. He died on Monday, July 9. Steve was a Baptist and was a graduate of Hughes Springs High School where he played in all sports. He received a scholarship from Southern State University of Arkansas in track, and received his Bachelors degree from there and a Masters degree from East Texas State University. After receiving his degree he coached in Warren and Gilmer High Schools and then in Cotton Center High School. Coach Williams was a Science teacher and coach for Daingerfield ISD for many years and retired in 2011. He enjoyed gardening and especially making salsa for his friends and family. Steve was preceded in death by his parents and grandson Trystan Robison. Coach Williams is survived by his wife Marie Durant Williams of Daingefield; son Daniel Williams of Hughes Springs; daughters Sarah Curto of Naples, Nancy Williams of Wilmington, NC, and Luann Oakes and husband Frank of Killeen; sister and brother-in-law Cheryl and Kermit Pharris of Alexandria, La.; 4; one nephew; one niece; special cousin David O’Neal; and numerous uncles, aunts and cousins.
