The Morris County Collaborative Broadband Committee, in partnership with Connected Nation Texas (CN Texas), launched a new effort to improve broadband (high-speed internet) access across the county on July 28.
Morris County now sits at 96 cumulative positive COVID-19 tests, up from 70 cumulative cases on July 24. According to the Texas Department of State Health Services website, Morris County currently has 57 estimated recoveries, leaving 39 active cases of the virus in the county.
Though the State of Texas Assessments of Academic Readiness (STAAR) will still be administered this school year as scheduled, fifth and eighth grade students will not be required to pass the test for promotion, according to a recent announcement by the Texas Education Agency (TEA).
Residents of Lone Star have been seeing more of Morris County Sheriff ’s Deputies, as the Lone Star Police force have all been in self-quarantine. Police Chief Steven Blythe, his three officers, and the secretary, all tested positive for COVID-19.
