The Daingerfield Tigers made the short trek to Hughes Springs Jan. 3 for their first action of the New Year. Despite a furious comeback to force overtime, the Tigers would ultimately fall to the Hughes Springs squad, 50-51 in the district matchup.Paced by Devin Flournoy’s 16 points and Trayvon Kennedy’s 13 points, the Mustangs built a 12 point lead late in the third period. Daingerfield exploded for 20 points in the final eight minutes of regulation, sending the game to overtime. With the win, Hughes Springs moves to 1-0 in district play, while Daingerfield falls to 0-2 in 15-3A. On the season, Hughes Springs boasts a 4-9 record, while Daingerfield 3-11 on the season.

Lady Tigers extend unbeaten district streak

The Daingerfield Lady Tigers have extended their district dominance, defeating Hughes Springs Jan. 3, 63-35. The win gives the Lady Tigers three win in three district games and runs their season record to 9-6 overall.The Tigers were led by Mikayla Roberson, who scored 22 points, including four three point shots. Lady Tigers split at Hallsville Holiday Classic

The Daingerfield Lady Tigers participated in the Hallsville Holiday Classic over the break, posting a 2-2 record against 4A and 5A teams over the two day tournament. The Lady Tigers played 4A Jasper and 5A Mount Pleasant Dec. 27 before meeting Pine Tree and Greenville Dec. 28.In the team’s matchup with Jasper, the Lady Tigers lost a heartbreaker at the buzzer, 52-54. Daingerfield had pulled with four, 54-50 before Mikayla Roberson took a steal the length of the court to bring the Lady Tigers within two, 54-52. With two second left on the clock, Daingerfield’s Jaclyn Garrett’s three-point rattled around the rim before falling just short. In the loss, Garrett had 14 points, just behind Roberson, who led the team with 21. Kiara Robinson added 11 for the Lady Tigers.
