NTCC’s Smith wins TIPA Adviser of the Year Award

Northeast Texas Community College associate professor Mandy Smith was recently named the 2019 Charles “Chuck” Choate Memorial Adviser of the Year by the Texas Intercollegiate Press Association (TIPA). This is the top state award for college and university journalism advisers and is designated for those who “go the extra mile in teaching and advising.”

Record number of NTCC Honors students accepted for presentations at Nationals this fall

Each spring the National Collegiate Honors Council releases the names of students who have been accepted to present scholarly works at the upcoming fall conference. This year, the freshmen honors group at NTCC obtained an alltime college record for the number of acceptances. Katelyn Cox, Maritza Quinones, Jaidyn Thompson, Gem Elmore, and Samuel Griffin all were elected to present posters, while Jalyn English will join Honors Director, Dr. Andrew Yox in presenting a panel on NTCC’s Caldwell-Award-winning films.

Jim and Paula Archer support NTCC for East Texas Giving Day

Doctors Jim and Paula Archer (right) recently presented Nita May (left), Northeast Texas Community College Director of Development, with a check for $2,000 for East Texas Giving Day (ETGD). The amount will be matched at 50% by the IBM employer giving program to bring their total contribution to $3,000. Additional matching opportunities through ETGD and grants will bring the total impact of the donation to $6,000. The Archer’s gift will support NTCC Honors, the Jim and Paula Archer Science Scholarship and the Whatley Center for the Performing Arts. The NTCC Foundation is participating in ETGD, which is scheduled for April 28.
