Wine and Viticulture

Viticulture, one of those words we never hear about, is a branch of horticulture. More specifically it’s the study of everything about grapes. While wine is usually down on the list when one thinks of alcoholic beverages, there’s a veritable plethora of information on the subject of which we should be aware. For example, the U.S. is the #1consumer of wines ahead of France, Germany, and Italy. This is somewhat blurred by the fact that on a per capita basis, we’re #34!!! As a producer of wines, the U.S. is ranked #4 and #5 in total vineyard acreage.

The Scratching Post

Breaking news… there’s a new lady in MY office. At first, I wasn’t sure what to think but we’ve “talked” and I’ve explained how things work here. I’m excited to show her the ropes here at the Pittsburg Gazette, how to greet guests (with full kitten enthusiasm), where my food is kept, what’s fun at the office - water bottle caps, unplugging laptops and rearranging piles of newspapers, just to name a few. I’m not sure what they would do without me!
