Principal’s Corner

Trees are blooming, grass is growing, and bass are spawning, so that means it’s Coach Mo’s favorite time of year. I wanted to take some time to shed some light on some upcoming projects that are in the works for our high school campus. Our school board approved the building of a new weight room since our current weight room was totaled by the hail damage we received last year. But, I want to clarify this is not the only project that is in the works. In fact, we will be building a new greenhouse for our campus starting as soon as our May plant sale is over. This new greenhouse will allow our FFA organization to not only have a Spring plant sale, but a Fall plant sale as well. Our current greenhouse was damaged just like our current weight room was in the same hail storm. Since both of these structures were a part of the hail storm, along with several other buildings in our district, TASB, which is who our school goes through for insurance, has already come in and assessed the damage to our roofs and other structures. The majority of these structures will receive new roofs per TASB. The exception will be our new weight room and new greenhouse. We will receive funds from TASB for these new structures, but not the total cost. For our weight room, we are in the planning process of looking at the needs for not just our students, but the needs of our community and organizations on campus. For example, we know that our bathrooms are outdated. Part of what we are looking at is adding new bathrooms for our community so that when they attend events at our stadium they are more comfortable with the bathrooms we have. We also know that our concession stands are outdated. We are also looking at options for new concession stands. These concession stands would be used by our FFA and Band organizations to help them raise money for opportunities for their members. This would be an addition for our FFA organization because they have not had a concession stand in the recent past. We are also looking at the needs for our new greenhouse and have been in communication with Mrs. V, one of our Ag teachers to find out some of the things she would like in this new greenhouse. I know that this is an election year and these are going to be hot topics for our community, but know that our administration along with our board are assessing what our students and communities needs are. Speaking as a parent whose daughter will be freshmen next year and will be involved in both athletics and FFA I am extremely excited for the opportunities these new facilities will provide for her. If you have any questions feel free to call the high school and ask for Coach Mo, or come and pay us a visit. We are proud of our high school campus, and the changes we are bringing to it. Our custodians have done an amazing job this year keeping our campus looking amazing. As always, stay safe and next week we will be back with some more loving, positive, and uplifting information about our school, students, and community. God bless and go Tigers!
