There’s something beneath the feet of East Texans that keeps drawing people to the region. Some say it’s the healthy soil, others say it’s the charming people. Recently, energy companies across the United States have set their eyes on East Texas for a different reason: lithium.

During a regular meeting on Monday, April 28, the Northeast Texas Municipal Water District (NETMWD) approved a policy change in regards to public comments during their board meetings, dictating that the board will not tolerate any disruption or comments outside of public comments and that there will be an allotted time limit during the public comments part of the meetings.
House Bill 2109, authored by House District 1 Representative Gary VanDeaver, was heard in the House Natural Resources Committee last week, with many from Northeast Texas making the trek to Austin and waiting all day for their turn at the podium to voice their opinion. Hundreds of Northeast Texans have also submitted written public comment on HB 2109.
On Wednesday, April 23, Texas Railroad Commissioner Chisti Craddick visited Mount Pleasant to talk about the oil and gas industry and how Northeast Texas is a leader in this industry.
