Connect with neighbors to make new friends and a difference
Many Texans are looking forward to getting out of the house this summer and spending time in person with family and friends. The increase in availability of the COVID-19 vaccine and the decrease in cases in the United States is enabling many people to meet in person for the first time since the beginning of 2020. The COVID-19 pandemic disrupted daily life for communities all over the United States. During 2020, physical distancing was the norm for many people but it was especially important for older adults. According to the CDC adults aged 65 and older were disproportionately affected by COVID-19. While distancing is an important disease prevention tool some people experienced loneliness as a result of the social isolation. Recent research has shown that the isolation experienced by older adults during the COVID-19 pandemic caused negative mental and physical effects. Anxiety, depression, poor sleep quality and physical inactivity were some of negative health outcomes reported.
