BBB Scam Tracker contains numerous reports of unscrupulous contractors who swindled homeowners by offering what appeared to be a “good deal”. Homeowners ended up with shoddy pavement; some contractors took the money without doing any work at all, which, in many cases, added up to thousands of dollars. BBB advises consumers to research companies before deciding on any contractor.
The IRS recently upgraded the Child Tax Credit Update Portal to enable families to update their bank account information so they can receive their monthly Child Tax Credit payment. The tool also allows families to unenroll from the advance payments if they don’t want to receive them. The Update Portal is available only on IRS.gov.
More than 70 students from the NTCC Work4College Program participated in Mad City reality simulation fair July 14. The event, hosted by NET Credit Union, is an exciting, interactive exercise to help students learn more about managing their personal finances.
On July 12, 2021 at approximately 2 p.m., Texas Department of Public Safety Troopers were notified of a traffic crash on SH 155 in Cass County about two miles south of Avinger. Preliminary investigation indicates a 2005 Peterbuilt Truck-Tractor which was towing a trailer was traveling northeast on SH 155. For an as yet undetermined reason, the driver of the Peterbuilt lost control of the vehicle and it left the roadway, striking several trees. There was heavy rain reported in the area at the time of the crash.
