Morris County Jail Log, January 12-18

• Isaiah J. Lanier, of Longview, was arrested Jan. 13 by Morris County deputies on a court committal (15 years in Texas Department of Criminal Justice) for robbery. Aaron Martinez, of Daingerfield, was arrested Jan. 13 by Lone Star police for criminal trespassing. He was later arrested by Daingerfield police for disorderly conduct before being held on an immigration detainer by Morris County deputies. On Jan. 14, Martinez was charged with cruelty to non-livestock animals.

Honors Northeast to present Lunch and Learn event at Mount Pleasant Library

Three Northeast Texas Community College Honors scholars will present original essays on regional themes at a Lunch and Learn event at the Mount Pleasant Library (601 North Madison) on Tuesday, Feb. 25. The free public event will be held in the Community Room from 12:15-1:15 p.m. Lunch will be provided by an anonymous donor. Dr. Andrew Yox (left), NTCC Honors Director, will begin the session with “North east Texas as Portrayed in Film”. Gem Elmore (center), of Winnsboro, will follow with a discussion on the “Integration of Churches in Northeast Texas”. Jaidyn Thompson (right) will round out the presentation with “Populist Attorney: the Story of Harold Nix”. Both Elmore and Thompson will be presenting their works later this spring at the meetings of the Walter Webb Society in Austin, and at the meeting of the Great Plains Honors Council in Wichita, Kansas.
