If history is an indicator, Texas voters will likely go to the polls on Nov. 2 in underwhelming numbers to decide the fate of eight proposed amendments to the state’s constitution. With no statewide races on the ballot, and a scattering of local elections for city council and school board, turnout typically is low. Nevertheless, early voting is now underway and continues until Oct. 29.
No matter who we are, what we do, or what kind of life we might live, there will always be seasons. There will be seasons when we are on top of the world, and likewise there will be seasons when we go through low points. The good times are always made better when they follow a season in our life when we just don’t think we can win, no matter what we do, and then we find a way. The lowest of our lows often show us just how resilient we really are, as we look back on them and see just how we fought back to overcome.
The days are getting shorter and the nights are getting cooler as we push further into fall, and there is nothing better on a cool Friday night then a county rivalry football game. This week our Daingerfield Tigers will be traveling up the road to face of with Paul Pewitt. Both teams are undefeated in district play, and I look forward to the electric atmosphere that a big Friday night football game brings. Last Friday we recognized our senior football players, cross country runners, band members, and cheerleaders. I am extremely proud as their principal of the hard work that all of these individuals have displayed both here on campus and out on the field. Last Friday also marked the end of our first nine weeks of school. I am proud of what our teachers are continuing to build in their classrooms. Our level of rigor is continuing to increase, as well as our expectations for all of our students. I am proud of our student body in these first 9 weeks because of the changes that have taken place this year, and their ability to adapt and honor the changes that Coach Betts and myself along with the rest of our staff are bringing. Its hard to believe that the first quarter of the school year is already over, but as we move forward to the next 3 quarters we are looking ahead to continuing to build a culture of pride, excellence, tradition, and just good ole fashion hard work here at Daingerfield High School. As always, stay safe and next week we will be back with some more loving, positive, and uplifting information about our school, students, and community. God bless and go Tigers!
