Hughes Springs defeats Gladewater to stay in playoff hunt

The Pewitt Brahmas welcomed the Hooks Hornets to town April 20. After taking a 4-1 lead afterthree innings, the Hornets scored one in the fifth and one in the sixth, but fell just short in their comeback attempt as the Brahmas held on to win, 4-3.
The Paul Pewitt Brahmas and Lady Brahmas had several competitors travel to Atlanta April 14 for the District 13 and 14 AAA Area Track meet. The varsity boys finished tenth with 21 points, while the varsity girls finished fourth with 60 points. Pewitt tracksters qualified for Regionals in nine events. The top four individuals in each event will advance to the Regional meet. Regional Qualifiers are marked by an asterisk (*).
The Daingerfield Lady Tigers are the Area 15-16 AAA after scoring 100 points at the Area meet in New Diana April 14. The Daingerfield boys track team finished fourth, while both the boys and girls teams from Hughes Springs finished eighth. Both schools had multiple students qualify for the regional meet.
The Hughes Springs Mustangs split a pair of district matchups last week, falling to White Oak before besting Ore City.
