Tigers hang on for victory over New Diana; face Newton in Louisiana Friday

The Daingerfield Tigers will once again advance to the third round of the UIL state playoffs after holding on for a 42-35 victory over New Diana on Friday night in Pittsburg. The defeat was the Eagles’ only blemish on the season as they finish 11-1. The Tigers, now riding a six-game win streak, improve to 7-5.

The Daingerfield Tigers (6-5) captured their tenth straight bi-district victory on Thursday night in Gladewater as they disposed of the Harmony Eagles, 35-14. The win sets up a huge area round showdown with another set of Eagles, New Diana, this Friday, Nov. 22 in Pittsburg with kickoff set for 7 p.m. Daingerfield will be the visitors. New Diana improved to 11-0 last week with a 43-21 bi-district victory over New Waverly.

Daingerfield ended the regular season with another lopsided victory last Friday. Reign Wallace started the scoring forthe Tigers on a 29-yard TD run. Eric Ballasteros kicked the PAT with 5:48 remaining in the first quarter. The Tigers’ quarterback Chase Johnson ran for a 1-yard TD with 34 seconds rleft in the first that was set up after a 20-yard pass from Isaiah Parker to Tamar Palmer to the 1-yard line. The Tigers lead was 14-0 at that point.
