More assistance available for those affected by November storms
Hughes Springs and the surrounding area are still in the process of cleaning up after several tornadoes ripped through the area Nov. 4. The United States Small Business Administration has distributed over $1 million in federal disaster loans for Texas businesses and residents impacted by severe storms and tornadoes in Lamar and Morris counties, but more held is available for residents of Hughes Springs who were affected by the storms.
New laws for Texas
The State of Texas ushered in a few new laws of note as the calendar changed from 2022 to 2023, including one that brings more transparency to the judicial system, one that addresses threats to the ozone layer and another that impacts local school district tax revenues.
Classes cancelled at Daingerfield High School after “possible gas leak”
Students at Daingerfield High School received an extra day before returning to class after what the district reported as a “possible gas leak.” Daingerfield- Lone Star ISD students were originally scheduled to return to class following the holiday break on Jan. 4. Al campuses except the high school were able to stick to the original schedule.
Elected officials take oaths, commissioners appoint replacement clerk
The Morris County Commissioners met for their first court meeting of the new year on Jan. 9. On the agenda included approving bonds for elected officials, and appointing a replacement clerk.
