Everyone is looking for a bit of normalcy amid all the changes and regulations brought by the current COVID-19 pandemic. One event on the horizon that looks to return to “almost” normal is the return of high school football.
Former Daingerfield football standout Torrian “Keke” Chism will be playing his final season of eligibility at The University of Missouri. Chism, who graduated from Angelo State in May of 2019, announced his transfer decision June 20.
COURTESY PHOTO Daingerfield’s Hailey Byrd recently received the Texas FFA Richard Wallrath Educational Foundation $10,000 Scholarship. During her time at Daingerfield, Hailey was a member of the Nursery and Landscape team, Forestry team, Greenhand Creed Speaking, Greenhand Quiz, Public Relations, Senior Creed Speaking, and Radio Broadcasting events. She also has shown her many Beefmaster heifers, steers, rabbits, and pigs. Hailey served as Daingerfield’s chapter president for the last two years. She competed in District, Area, and State LDE and CDE contests along with exhibiting animals at all major shows across the state. Her plan is to attend Texas A&M-Commerce to major in Agriculture Education and to continue growing her herd, HMB Beefmasters.
COURTESY PHOTO Daingerfield’s Victor Gonzalez recently received the Texas FFA Houston Livestock Show $20,000 Scholarship. Victor has served as vice president of the Daingerfield FFA chapter for the last two years. He has shown market goats including some he raised himself. He was a part of the state qualifying Forestry Team all four years of high school. Victor was a top ten individual at the state contest and has participated in the job interview contest and quiz contests at the district and area levels. He has competed in the State Spanish FFA Creed Speaking contest each year, placing tenth in the state last summer. He was the 2020 Valedictorian and will be attending Texas A&M to major in Chemical Engineering.
