The Daingerfield Chamber of Commerce held their annual awards banquet March 7, where they honored awards recipients with a dinner and music through the decades. The Chamber introduced a new award, presenting the first Lifetime Achievement to cap off the evening.
Hughes Springs Area Public Library has once again been recognized as one of America’s star libraries for 2019. The Library Journal scores and rates libraries based on the recent findings from the Institute of Museum and Library Services. A total of 261 public libraries were recognized nationwide with ten of those libraries from Texas. Wi-Fi joins the five existing measures that determine the LJ Index: total circulation, circulation of electronic materials, library visits, program attendance, and public Internet computer use. Eligible libraries are grouped by total operating expenditures and rated based on their differences from the average for the six per-capita statistics. The IMLS gathers information from the annual report that each state is required to submit.
