Friday, the Daingerfield Tigers had a chance to pull into a tie for first place in District 15-3A. The team needed a win over Sabine to split the season series and possibly share a district title with just one game remaining after Friday.

Chris Collins and the Hughes Springs Mustangs are battling for a playoff spot, with Tuesday’s regular season finale holding importance. The Mustangs and White Oak are currently tied for the fourth playoff spot in 15-3A. The Mustangs and Roughnecks split their season series. Hughes Springs traveled to first place Sabine Tuesday while White Oak traveled to Gladewater. If the Mustangs upset the Cardinals and White Oak lost to the Bears, Hughes Springs would get the final playoff spot. If both teams lose or win, a district playoff will be needed. Additionally, the district playoff could involve a third team if both Hughes Springs and White Oak win their games and New Diana loses to Daingerfield. The Mustangs and Roughnecks both split the season series with the Eagles.
The UIL shuffled the deck for its biannual redistricting Thursday morning, with local teams receiving a few new dance partners for the next two school years.
Separated by just six miles, most games between Daingerfield and Hughes Springs tend to turn into reunions – friends and family heading just up the road to see each other, former coworkers reuniting, all with the energy that such a game typically brings.
