The Pewitt Brahmas moved one step closer to a return trip to the State Championships when they defeated perennial powerhouse Newton in the Area Round Nov. 20. Pewitt was able to hold on for a 44-36 win over the Eagles in Henderson to take the Area crown.
The Hughes Springs Mustangs matched up with the West Rusk Raiders in the Area Round of the UIL State Football Playoffs Nov. 19. The Mustangs fell in the contest, held at Jack Murphy Stadium in Gladewater, 52-28.
