The J. Frank Dobie Library Trust is honored to announce that the Hughes Springs Area Public Library has been selected to receive a grant in the amount of $10,000 to purchase books for the library’s collection.

Welcome to Part Three in our ongoing series highlighting this year’s Annual Texas Hot Link Festival. This week, the festival is proud to recognize the Pilgrim’s Corporation for their support by bringing an interactive Farmers Market to the festival. Under the leadership of Pilgrim’s, combined with the expertise provided by the Agriculture Department at Northeast Texas Community College (AG-NTCC), festival-goers will be able to experience the best practices in preparing and raising farm goods at this “A Farm Fashioned Life” farmers market.
Area residents will have to find another location to donate used clothing due to theft and vandalizing of drop boxes in Hughes Springs. The Arms of Hope clothing drop-off containers that were located at the Hughes Springs Church of Christ are no longer available.
Last spring, Cass County launched a new club to prepare students for higher education and the 21st century workforce. The 4-H College & Career Readiness Club (C&CRC), led by club manager Larry Allen, was specifically designed for students in grades 8-12 with the goal of building a college readiness culture for the next generation of leaders. With support from Prairie View A&M Cooperative Extension 4-H & Youth Development Program, C&CRC was able to partner with Higher Education & Learning Professional Consulting, Inc. (HELP) to provide intentional college readiness support. HELP Consulting, based in College Station, is a nonprofit that specializes in helping students get to and through college and graduate school and move on to careers.
